A classic and multiple grade one winner, Seize the Grey is by twice World Champion and outstanding classic sire, Arrogate, out of Smart Strike mare from an outstanding Phipps family.
Arrogate has done extremely well with mares from the A.P. Indy line, particularly with Tapit, whose daughters have supplied three of his stakes winners, including champion Arcangelo. Tapit and his sire Pulpit have also done very well with the family of Seize the Grey. Sons of Tapit include Trappe Shot (who gives inbreeding to Seize the Grey’s family), Constitution, Frosted, Tonalist, Concord Point, Tapizar, Tapiture and Hansen. There is also a graded stakes winner by Arrogate out of a mare by Pulpit, and stakes winner out of a mare by Pulpit son, Sky Mesa. Other sons of Pulpit include Stroll, Corinthian, Mr. Speaker and Lord Nelson.
Continuing with A.P. Indy, Arrogate has sired graded stakes winner Affirmative Lady out of a mare by Stephen Got Even (sire of First Dude). It could also be worth considering mares descending from A.P. Indy through Bernardini – who is bred rather similarly to Tapit, and who is sire of To Honor and Serve and Stay Thirsty – as well as Malibu Moon, Flatter (sire of Upstart, West Coast and Flat Out), Congrats, Mineshaft (sired of Dialed In and Discreetly Mine), Jump Start, Aptitude and Indygo Shiner, who are all broodmare sires of stakes winners by sons of Arrogate’s sire, Unbridled’s Song.
Arrogate sired the grade one winning And Tell Me Nolies out of a mare by Danzig son, Exchange Rate, and multiple grade one winner Cave Rock is out of a mare by Bellamy Road, whose sire, Concerto, is by Chief’s Crown, like Exchange Rate a son of Danzig. On the Danzig cross, there is also a grade one winner by a son of Unbridled’s Song out of a mare by Langfuhr, graded stakes winners from daughter of Hard Spun, and Rock of Gibraltar and Dansili (both by Danehill), and stakes winners out of mares by Polish Numbers, Belong to Me, War Chant, Corridor Key and Boundary (sire of Big Brown – also broodmare sire of an Unbridled’s Song line stakes winner – and Pomeroy). Seize the Grey should also do well with mares by War Front (sire of Air Force Blue, Data Link, Declaration of War, Hit It A Bomb, Jack Milton, Summer Front and The Factor).
Unbridled’s Song and sons have done well with mares from the Storm Cat line, and on this cross Arrogate has graded winner Liberal Arts out of a mare by Tribal Rule (a three-quarters brother to Yankee Gentleman). Other success include grade one winners out of mares by Hennessy, and his sons, Johannesburg (sire of Scat Daddy) and Cactus Ride (with another Hennessy son, Henny Hughes, appearing as broodmare sire of Unbridled’s Song line stakes winners) and Bernstein; graded stakes winners out of mares by Giant’s Causeway and his sons First Samurai and Red Giant, with Giant’s Causeway also through Not This Time, Creative Cause and Eskendereya; Forest Wildcat (whose son, Wildcat Heir is broodmare sire of an Unbridled’s Song line stakes winner); Storm Creek; Sir Cat; and Lion Heart (by Tale of the Cat, also sire of Tale of Ekati and Overdriven; grandsire of Kantharos, Uncaptured and Girvin) and there are also stakes winners out of mares by Stormy Atlantic; Menifee and Harlan’s Holiday, both sons of Harlan, with Harlan’s Holiday also sire of Into Mischief, Shanghai Bobby and Majesticperfection; Forestry and his son Old Forestry (with Forestry also sire of Shackleford and Discreet Cat); Pure Prize; Catienus and Bluegrass Cat.
From the Deputy Minister line Arrogate has a stakes winner out of a mare by Ghostzapper (by Awesome Again, sire of Oxbow, Paynter and Awesome of Course) and a stakes winner out of a mare by Dehere (sire of Graeme Hall, himself broodmare sire of a Unbridled’s Song line stakes winners) and an Unbridled’s Song line stakes winner out of a mare by Defrere, a brother to Dehere. On this same cross, there is are two Unbridled’s Song grade one winners out of mares by French Deputy; four stakes winners, one graded out of a mares by Touch Gold; five stakes winners out of mares by Silver Deputy and a graded winner out of a mare by his son Posse; and stakes winners out of mares by Salt Lake, Service Stripe and Ministers Wild Cat.
Arrogate is sire of graded winner Petulante out of a mare by Uncle Mo (sire of Nyquist, Outadore and Laoban). In addition, Unbridled’s Song and sons have done well with mares by Indian Charlie, the sire of Uncle Mo. Indian Charlie is by In Excess, also sire of Notional and Bring the Heat, and he himself is also sire of Adios Charlie, Bwana Charlie, Liaison and Cinco Charlie.
In Excess is from the Caro line, and from the Cozzene branch, Arrogate sired stakes winner Dragoon Guard out of a mare by Mizzen Mast, and there are also Unbridled’s Song line stakes winners out ot mares by Cozzene himself and Cozzene son, Alphabet Soup.
From his own Fappiano male line, Arrogate is sire of classic winner Secret Oath from a daughter of Quiet American (available through Midnight Lute). On a similar cross, there are two stakes winners from the Unbridled’s Song line out of mares by sons of Rubiano, sire of Too Much Bling and Burning Roma. It could be worth trying mares from the Fappiano branch which comes down via Candy Ride (sire of Twirling Candy and Gun Runner).
We can also note that Arrogate has two stakes winners, one graded, out of mares by Blame, and grade one winner Fun to Dream, out of a mare by Maria’s Mon (sire of Super Saver; grandsire of Runahppy).
