News

“It is rare that a horse who comes to stud with such consistent high-class ability is a grandson of the two foremost breed-shaping stallions of the last decade, Tapit and Into Mischief.” – Antony Beck of Gainesway

WHITE ABARRIO displayed an immense amount of talent from day one, starting with a 6 3/4-length victory in his first start as a 2-year-old. He has achieved graded stakes wins or placings during every year of his racing career and posted 11 triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures.

Early in his 3-year-old season, the grandson of perennial leading sire TAPIT established himself as one of the top colts of his generation with decisive victories in the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) and Florida Derby (G1).

He maintained that brilliance as a 4-year-old with a 6 1/4-length victory in the Whitney Stakes (G1), handing Cody’s Wish the only defeat of his 2023 Horse of the Year campaign. He followed that up with the most important triumph of his career in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) at Santa Anita Park, where he defeated seven Grade or Group 1 winners.

WHITE ABARRIO kicked off his 2025 campaign with a dominant 6 1/4-length victory in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1). He earned a 1” Ragozin Sheet figure for that performance, the fastest such number recorded in 2025.

In 2026, WHITE ABARRIO won the Oaklawn Handicap (G2) in April by two lengths. He defeated dual classic winner and defending Horse of the Year Sovereignty, as well as Preakness Stakes winner Journalism, and earned a career-best 111 Beyer for the effort.

Pedigree Analysis for White Abarrio

Breeeders’ Cup Classic captor and four-time grade one scorer, White Abarrio owns a resume boasts victories over such as  Sovereignty, Journalism, Cody’s Wish, Mystik Dan, Arabian Knight, Locked,  Proxy, Senor Buscador, Bright Future and Zandon. By a son of Tapit, he’s out of an Into Mischief daughter who is a three-quarters sister to grade one winning sprinter Eclatant.

Out of a mare by Into Mischief, White Abarrio is bred on an extended version of the very successful cross of Tapit over Storm Cat line mares. This includes Champion Monomoy Girl by a son of Tapit out of a mare by Henny Hughes, who is by Hennessy, himself the broodmare sire of a Tapit grade one winner. Hennessy is sire of Johannesburg, who is also broodmare sire of a Tapit line grade one winner, as well as a stakes winner by White Abarrio’s sire. Crosses with mares carrying Johannesburg and his son Scat Daddy (also broodmare sire of a Tapit line grade one winner) are particularly interesting giving inbreeding to the sisters Preach and Yarn, as found in Scat Daddy’s Triple Crown winner Justify. Tapit line Champions Hansen and British Idiom are out of mares by Storm Cat sons Sir Cat, and Mr. Sekiguchi respectively. Overall there are 21 grade one winners bred on a Tapit/Storm Cat cross, also including from daughters of Forestry (sire of Discreet Cat and Shackleford), Giant’s Causeway (sire of Not This Time, First Samurai, Eskendereya, Creative Cause, Fed Biz, Carpe Diem, Brody’s Cause, Fairbanks and Giant Gizmo), Tabasco Cat, Bluegrass Cat, Yankee Gentleman, Bernstein, Stormy Atlantic and Seeking the Dia. We can also note Tapit graded winners out of mares by Storm Cat line stallions Forest Wildcat (sire of Wildcat Heir) and Catienus, and stakes winners out of mares other Storm Cat sons, Stormin Fever, Pure Prize, Hold That Tiger and City Place, and one out of a mare by Forty Tales, a son of Tale of the Cat (also giving Preach and Yarn, and sire of Tale of Ekati and Lion Heart, and grandsire of Girvin, Kantharos and Uncaptured).

Sadler’s Wells is like Storm Cat, branch of the Northern Dancer line, and on the Tapit cross with Sadler’s Wells line mares there are grade one winners out of mares by Galileo (sire in the U.S. of Cape Blanco and Magician) and El Prado and his son, Kitten’s Joy. There are also two graded winners out of mares by El Prado son, Medaglia d’Oro, and two stakes winners out of a mare by Medaglia d’Oro son, Warrior’s Reward (broodmare sire of two stakes winners by the sire of White Abarrio) with Medaglia d’Oro also sire of . This also suggests mares by Artie Schiller. There are also stakes winners out of mares by Sadler’s Wells line stallions High Chaparral and Horse Chestnut.

Another branch of Northern Dancer that has done well under Tapit is Deputy Minister. On this cross, grade one winner American Gal is one of five stakes winners by Tapit and sons out of mares by Ghostzapper, a son of  Awesome Again, also broodmare sire of a stakes winner by White Abarrio’s sire, and sire of Paynter, Oxbow, Toccet, Daaher and Awesome of Course). Tapit and his sons also have graded winners out of mares by Graeme Hall, a son of the Deputy Minister stallion, Dehere (also broodmare sire of a Tapit line stakes winner) and French Deputy, and stakes winners out of mares by Touch Gold and his son, Mass Media, as well as Posse and Spring At Last, both by Silver Deputy, who should work very well here.

From the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer, there are graded winners Souper Tapit, Webslinger, Silver Dust out of mares by Hard Spun; five stakes winners, including graded stakes winner Personal Best out of mares by War Front (sire of Declaration of War – broodmare sire of a Tapit line stakes winner – and The Factor) and there is also a Tapit line grade one winner out of a mare War Chant and Tapit line stakes winners out of mares by Belong to Me, Exchange Rate, Danzig Connection and Boundary (sire of Big Brown), Anabaa, Langfuhr (sire of Lawyer Ron) and Exceed and Excel and Redoute’s Choice (both by Danehill). From the Dixieland Band branch of Northern Dancer, Tapit has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Dixieland Band himself, and there are four graded stakes winners out of mares by that horse’s son, Dixie Union.

From Mr. Prospector line, White Abarrio’s sire has a stakes winner out of a mare by Elusive Quality, also the broodmare sire of Tapit’s Champion Essential Quality. Elusive Quality is sire of Quality Road, Smarty Jones, Great Notion, Omega Code and Exclusive Quality. Elusive Quality is a son of Gone West. From other sons of that stallion, we find Tapit line grade one winners out of mares by Mr. Greeley (whose son, El Corredor, is broodmare sire of a stakes winner by White Abarrio’s sire) and Proud Citizen, graded stakes winners from mares by Muqtarib, Johar, Grand Slam and Speightstown (sire of Munnings and Central Banker).

There also seems to be a Tapit line affinity for the Forty Niner branch of Mr. Prospector, with grade one winners Constitution and Sandman out of daughters of Distorted Humor (sire of Flower Alley, Sharp Humor, Drosselmeyer, Maclean’s Music, Jimmy Creed, Alternation, Boisterous, Cowtown Cat, Brethren and Khozan); grade one winner Dance Card out of a mare by Editor’s Note; as well as two stakes winners out of mares by Coronado’s Quest, and stakes winners out of a mare by Bankers Gold, Sunday Break and End Sweep (sire of Trippi).

From a mare by Mr. Prospector son, Carson City, Tapit sired grade one winner Pretty City Dancer, and two other graded stakes winners, suggesting daughters of City Zip. From other branches of Mr. Prospector there is a Tapit graded winner out of a mare Smoke Glacken; Tapit line graded winners out of mares by Cape Town and his sire, Seeking the Gold (also sire of Petitionville and Mutakddim); a Tapit line graded stakes winner out of a mare by Curlin (sire of Good Magic, Connect, Palace Malice and Exaggerator), a son of Smart Strike (also sire of Lookin At Lucky and English Channel); two stakes winners out of mares by Roman Ruler, a son of Fusaichi Pegasus; and a stakes winner out of a mare by Lemon Drop Kid (giving inbreeding to A.P. Indy and a three-quarters sister). The cross with a mare by Street Sense (by Street Cry, also sire of Street Boss) has produced grade one winner Mindframe.

Tapit is out of a mare by Unbridled, from the Fappiano branch and there has been some success with the cross back over Fappiano line mares.  Tapit is sire of grade one winner Ring Weekend out of a mare by Fappiano line stallion, Cryptoclearance, and a stakes winner by out of a mare by his son, Crypto Star, inviting daughters of Candy Ride (sire of Twirling Candy and Gun Runner) and Victory Gallop.

Crossed back over the Unbridled branch Tapit and sons have sired Champion Unique Bella and five other stakes winners out of mares by Unbridled’s Song, and over mares by sons of Unbridled’s Song the Tapit line has a grade one winner from a daughter of Dunkirk, four stakes winners including grade one winner Scylla out of mares by First Defence; and stakes winners out of mares by Eurosilver and Half Ours. Other sons of Unbridled’s Song include Songandaprayer, Even The Score, Rockport Harbor, Old Fashioned, Zensational, Arrogate and Midshipman.

There are eight Tapit line stakes winner, including grade one winner Valiance of mares by  Empire Maker. There is a stakes winner by a Tapit son out of a mare by Empire Maker’s son, Pioneerof the Nile, and he is also sire of Bodemeister, and grandsire of American Pharoah and Cairo Prince (both broodmare sires of Tapit line stakes winners). Another Unbridled son to appear as broodmare sire of Tapit stakes winners is Broken Vow, and there is also a Tapit line stakes winner out of a mare by Unbridled grandson Birdstone. It could also pay to consider introducing Fappiano through Rubiano – a three-quarters brother to the dam of Tapit – and Quiet American (grandsire of Midnight Lute).

From the In Reality line, Tapit line stallions have four stakes winners, including classic winner Tapwrit from the Valid Appeal branch through Successful Appeal. The cross of Tapit and sons over mares from the Relaunch branch through Tiznow (sire of Gemologist, Colonel John and Tiz Wonderful), has produced nine stakes winners, including classic winner Tiz The Law, and a stakes winner by the sire of White Abarrio. The cross with the Honour and Glory (sire of Put it Back) branch has produced four stakes winners.

The sire of White Abarrio has a stakes winner out of a mare by Indian Charlie, also broodmare sire of Tapit’s invincible son, Flightline. The cross has also produced a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Indian Charlie son, Uncle Mo (sire of Nyquist, Laoban and Outwork).
