ANCHOR DOWN’s Sea To Success stayed undefeated in two starts on Wednesday with an authoritative win at Oaklawn Park.
Going off as the heavy favorite in the six furlong race, the 3-year-old stumbled at the break and had to settle for racing at the back of the pack for much of the run. The gelding found a hole in the turn and used that to make his way closer to the leader down the stretch.
Despite a rough trip throughout, Sea To Success bolted past the leader in the final sixteenth to win by a widening 1 ¾ lengths at the line.
Trained by John Sadler for Jerry Caroom, it was the second March win for Sea To Success after he broke his maiden by over four lengths 2 ½ weeks ago.
Bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds, Sea To Success is the first runner for two-time winner Manahatta, who has a year younger full brother to the gelding and a yearling three-quarter sister by TAPWRIT.
Manahatta herself is a half-sister to two stakes-placed runners, including the dam of Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Isotherm and Grade 1-placed Gio Game.
TAPIT’s second crop-sire son ANCHOR DOWN is the sire of 50 percent winners to runners and 14.29 percent stakes horses to runners – one of the highest percentages of all second-crop sires in both categories.
