Winnemac Avenue was a runaway Maiden Special Weight winner for TAPWRIT on Thursday with a 6 ¾ romp.
Racing just over a mile at Hawthorne, the gelding sat in a keen second place position just behind the leader in an outside path. That gave him a clear path to make his run for the lead around the turn and by the time they entered the stretch was already taking command of the race.
From that point, the TAPWRIT runner easily pulled away and was eased down in the end for an easy victory.
Trained by James DiVito for Doubledown Stables, Winnemac Avenue was a $75,000 OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds graduate last year. He was bred in Kentucky by Crown Chase Farm out of the EMPIRE MAKER mare Queen of the Rings.
That mare is the dam of stakes placed Okie Queen and five other winners from six to race. Queen of the Rings is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Southern Ring out of the stakes winner and Grade 1 placed Seeking the Ring. The family also includes multiple graded stakes winner Messier.
TAPWRIT is the sire of 13 winners and two stakes winners from 48 starters in 2023 with 24 winners and 23 additional placers overall.
