Buyers will have a chance to join the lucrative New York-bred program with a runner from TAPWRIT’s first crop on Sunday when he sends two through the ring during the first session of the Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Yearlings Sale.
TAPWRIT was off to a flying start at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale last month when he had the most six figure yearlings of any freshman represented with five. Averaging $93,143 for the seven sold with a $100,000 median, TAPWRIT looks to continue that streak in Saratoga.
The Belmont Stakes (G1) winner’s first through the ring comes just nine hips in when his colt out of Vonn Nez is offered by South Point Sales Agency as Hip 310.
Bred by Windylea Farm New York and sold by the breeder at the Keeneland January Sale, the colt is a half-brother to two winners from two to race. His four-time winning dam earned over $107,000 on the track and was just one of the successful runners for his stakes winning granddam Iza Bay. Vonn Nez is a full sister to four-time stakes winner and Grade 1-placed La Nez, who is also the dam of TAPIT’s Grade 3 winner Tapit Today. Vonn Nez is also a half-sister to stakes-placed La Mano Nera with Iza Bay producing six winners from six to race.
Midway through the first session is Hip 343, a filly by TAPWRIT bred by Empire Equines. Offered by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, the filly is out of Bay Island, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) runner-up Dust and Diamonds. Dust and Diamonds is also the dam of Grade 3-placed Much Better. Bay Island’s other siblings include stakes-placed Sandra and Personal Interest. Their two-time winning dam is a half-sister to stakes winner Majestic Vintage with the filly coming from the family of champion Dancing Brave and Grade 1 winners Sand Springs and Jolypha.
Versatile sire KARAKONTIE represents Gainesway sires on the second day when his colt out of Soul of Bourbon sells only a little over a week after dual surface graded stakes winner Princess Grace won a Grade 2 in California for their sire.
Bred by Sandee Schultz, Hip 569 is offered by Turning Point Bloodstock. Soul of Bourbon has two winners from two to race and is a full sister to Belle Soul, the dam of Group 1 winner Quinta Nota, and a three-quarter sister to Canadian champion Not Bourbon. The trio are out of multiple graded stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Bourbon Belle, who is also the granddam of stakes winners Eighty Nine Red and Silver Princess.
The colt is bred on the same 3 x 4 Storm Cat cross as KARAKONTIE’s multiple stakes-placed Karakatsie and five other winners from six runners by KARAKONTIE whose second dams are by Storm Cat sons.
Sunday’s Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Yearlings session starts at 7p.m. ET with the Monday session starting at 12.p.m. ET.
