It was a first winner for OLYMPIAD on Friday when Techwerkian won a Maiden Special Weight by 1 ¼ lengths.
Going off as the favorite in the 4 ½ furlong dirt race at Belterra Park, Techwerkian was first out of the gate and showed to be the clear class of the field.
She opened up multiple lengths in only a few strides and easily controlled the pace from there. Around the turn, she let up a little bit to allow another horse to get within a length of her. Despite that horse working all stretch to get past her, Techwerkian kept them at bay the whole time to comfortably win by 1 ¼ lengths with the third placed runner four lengths behind her.
Trained by co-owner Rey Hernandez, she is also raced by Ricardo Labra and Rhonda Cornum with two top three finishes in three starts.
The Indian Creek-bred filly is out of Smart Strike mare Comedia, who was a two-time winner herself. That mare also produced the stakes winning Colonel Ludlow among her five winners from seven to race. Her other runners also include seven-time winner Suspended Campaign and three-time winner Fabled Ruler.
Comedia is a half-sister to the stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Abraham, who won 15 races overall, and to Grade 1-placed Beat the Benchmark. Three of her sisters have produced stakes performers of their own with the group including Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Intricate and stakes winner Supreme Aura.
This family also includes Group 1 winner Penelopa and Grade 2 winners Miss Isella, Sir Cherokee, and World Record.
A Grade 1 winner who won from 7 furlongs to 1 ¼ miles, his first 2-year-olds have sold for up to $300,000 in 2026.
