Only days after TAPIT sired a history-making fourth Belmont Stakes (G1) winner, buyers will have four chances to buy a 2-year-old by the stallion at the OBS June 2-Year-Olds Sale this week.
Fittingly, TAPIT’s offerings are led by a filly out of Appealing Zophie as Hip 96, making her a full sister to TAPIT’s Belmont Stakes winning studmate and son TAPWRIT. Bred by Barronstown Stud, this de Meric Sales offering has every possibility of having the lethal combination of being a top juvenile AND only getting better with age. <Watch her breeze here>
Her own full brother TAPWRIT was one of only three traditional-distance Belmont Stakes winners in the past 15 years to win a juvenile dirt stakes race – joining American Pharoah and Union Rags in that feat (and now Essential Quality after his emphatic victory Saturday). Their dam Appealing Zophie was a precocious racehorse herself, she won a Grade 1 at two and all but one of her juvenile runners has won a race.
But this filly won’t be a one-season-and-done type.
In addition to TAPWRIT going on to win the Belmont at three, her half-brother Ride a Comet has won stakes in both his five and six-year-old years. He also shows that this page has every chance of getting better after you buy the filly – he won the Tropical Turf Stakes (G3) earlier this year. Ride a Comet isn’t a one-off either, their half-sister is the dam of a juvenile stakes-placed runner who won a stakes races at four. That same horse has come back at five this year to hit the board in both his stakes attempts.
A big update on the page is Appealing Sophie’s three-year-old daughter by TAPIT son Frosted is now a stakes winner, securing the Goldfinch S. by over five lengths on May 15th for trainer Brad Cox.
TAPIT’s Hip 907 is closely related to his sire’s Grade 1 winner Valiance. Consigned by Hidden Brook, the colt saw one of his close relatives add an earnings update to the page on Saturday at Monmouth Park.
Already the sibling of one winner from one to race out of his dam Lazy Susan, he is a grandson of dual Grade 1 winner Lazy Slusan, whose Empire Maker daughter Last Full Measure is also a Grade 1 winner.
Three of Lazy Susan’s half-sisters have produced stakes performers, boding well for this colt’s future on the track. <Watch his breeze here.>
The OBS June sale kicks off on Wednesday at 10:30am ET with TAPIT’s first offering the aforementioned Appealing Zophie filly. The stallion’s third day offerings starting with Hip 891 after having no offerings scheduled to go through the ring on Thursday.
