TAPIT’s Tap It To Win Romps In NYRABets Sprint Stakes

TAPIT’s Grade 1-placed son Tap It To Win started 2021 on a victorious note Sunday with an impressively easy 4 ¼ length win in the NYRABets Sprint Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Racing over six furlongs on the Tampa Bay dirt, race favorite Tap It To Win was positioned between horses just behind the leader down the backstretch. After keeping Tap It To Win securely behind them for much of the race, the leaders made a race-losing move as the field turned into the stretch as they left a hole open on the rail. That was all that was needed to invite Tap It To Win to join in their fight.

The battle didn’t last long with the bay strolling to the lead. In the last furlong, jockey Antonio Gallardo looked more like he was out for a morning gallop on his mount than in a race as he sat still in the saddle and let Tap It To Win stride home.

Trained by Mark Casse for owner-breeder Live Oak Stud, Tap It To Win was placed in both the H. Allen Jerkens S. (G1) and Pat Day Mile (G2) last year at three. The winner of four of his 10 starts with three other on-the-board finishes, the colt now has over $330,000 in earnings.

Tap It To Win is one of two stakes performers out of Medaglia d’Oro’s stakes winning mare Onepointhreekarats alongside Grade 2-placed Souper Stonehenge. One of four stakes winners for her dam, Onepointhreekarats is out of a half-sister to the Grade 2 winning dam of two-time champion Songbird.

Onepointhreekarats visited TAPIT again in 2018 and has a 2-year-old full brother to Tap It To Win named Tapthespeedofsound, who is also owned and bred by Live Oak Stud.
