TAPIT’S Mrs. Danvers Romps in Comely (G3)

Filly becoms newest stakes winner for TAPIT

It was a second stakes winner in two days for TAPIT when Mrs. Danvers romped to an easy win in the Comely Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct on Friday. The gray 3-year-old was winning her second straight race for owner-breeder Joseph Allen and trainer Shug McGaughey.

Racing over 1 1/8 miles in only her second stakes start, Mrs. Danvers went straight to the lead from the gate. Feeling pressure from another rival throughout the early stages, Mrs. Danvers briefly lost her lead before picking it back up half way down the backstretch.

As they entered the stretch, Mrs. Danvers picked up the pace and started pulling away to make easy work of the race with an 6 1/4 length victory.

Mrs. Danvers is a half-sister to Grade 2-placed Nathan Detroit, out of Gracie Square. That unraced Awesome Again mare is a half-sister to stakes winners Teammate, War Front, and Ecclesia with another half-brother in North Dakota winning the Red Smith Stakes (G3) last weekend. Those runners are all out of the late multiple stakes winner Starry Dreamer, who was also multiple Grade 1-placed in her career.

Mrs. Danvers is the 139th stakes winner and 87th graded stakes winner for top sire TAPIT.
