RAGING BULL’s Proletariat recorded back-to-back stakes victories when he controlled the field from start to finish in Sunday’s Del Mar Derby (G2).
Breaking from the inside post, the heavy favorite was first out of the gate in the 1 1/8-mile affair and relaxed up front with another horse racing about a length behind him around the first turn. He stretched that margin out a little bit down the backstretch with no serious challenge to pressure him into a faster pace going into the far turn.
Pulling away as that early rival started getting asked for more, Proletariat was given a few taps in the stretch to keep him focused but easily stayed in front to win by 1 ¼ lengths.
Proletariat has won all three of his 2026 starts with a win in the Oceanside Handicap last out to join his thirds in two Grade 3s as a juvenile. The sophomore trained by Jeff Mullings for Dutch Girl Goldings and Irving Ventures has never finished worse than third in his seven career starts.
The Liberty Road Stables-bred RAGING BULL son was purchased for $200,00 as a 2-year-old and is one of two stakes placed runners out of the stakes placed Kodiak West. That mare has also produced KARAKONTIE’s Group 2 placed Sun Never Sets.
Proletariat joins Carrizo Creek as Grade 2 winners on the page with each of his first five dams producing stakes horses or stakes producers.
This is the second stakes win in just over a week for RAGING BULL after Jes See Me won the Crowd Pleaser S. last Friday.
