Coming into the Ontario County S. after finishing fourth in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1), MCKINZIE’s Stickupwithoutagun added a stakes win to his record with a 1 ½ length victory.
The Ilkay Kantamarci trainee broke well and quickly went to the front in the six furlong race to contest Lord King’s lead. He kept that won honest throughout the early and mid stages without putting in maximum effort and waited for jockey Christopher Elliott’s cue for more.
Once that came in the stretch, Stickupwithoutagun responded well to steadily pull away. By the time they hit the line, he was 1 ½ lengths ahead with Lord King battling off another runner and the rest of the field over five lengths back.
This was the third win of the year for the MCKINZIE 3-year-old, who races for his trainer in addition to Sanford Goldfarb and Koshanostra Stables.
He was bred by Sequel Thoroughbreds and Lakland Farms out of the Trappe Shot mare Gun Club. That mare’s two winners from three to race also includes the stakes placed My Magic Wand. Gun Club is out of In Truth, who produced the stakes winner Mr. Palmer, Grade 3-placed Beasley, and stakes placed Conspiracy.
This family also includes multiple Grade 1 winners Behrens and Commentator.
MCKINZIE has had a fruitful few weeks with his yearlings selling for up to $700,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and his son Hymn becoming his newest Grade 1 winner to end August.
