It was a Gainesway freshman exacta on Monday when MCKINZIE’s Not Too Late beat home SPUN TO RUN’s Five a Side home in a Parx Maiden Special Weight.
Making her third career start in the seven-furlong dirt race, Not Too Late was off well before being restrained as two horses battled for the lead. Racing in the second flight alongside Five a Side, she made her run in the turn and quickly secured the lead.
Not Too Late showed some greenness in the stretch while drifting out but had plenty left to hold off Five a Side with the third placed runner 14 ¾ lengths behind Five a Side.
Trained by Uriah St. Lewis for Trin-Brook Stables, Not Too Late was bred by Tony Holmes. The filly is a half-sister to the stakes winning Mizze Beau and the three-time winner Shootoutthelights out of the stakes placed Donna Getyourgun.
Donna Getyourgun is one of three stakes performers from nine winners out of Cryptoqueen alongside the multiple graded stakes winner Clear a Queen and stakes placed and Grade 1 fourth Queen Martha. Both half-sisters have also produced at least one stakes performer.
MCKINZIE’s six winners is sixth best among all freshman sires this year with winners at Saratoga and Parx within 24 hours over the last few days.
