TAPWRIT daughter Lightofmaine started her year off on a winning note over the weekend with a win in the LA Bred Premier Starlet Stakes for a first stakes victory.
Coming into the race off a win to end 2023, Lightofmaine was happy to take up duties pressuring the pacesetter in the one-mile dirt race for the first half. Always close to that one, she took command of the race in the far turn but it was far from over.
Showing her determination, Lightofmaine dug in throughout the stretch run to hold off Magnolia Avenue and win by a neck.
This is the third win and fourth top three finish in six starts for the TAPWRIT 3-year-old trained by Bret Calhoun for Maury and Christopher Harrington.
Bred by Baronne Farms, Lightofmaine is the second stakes performer out of Deputy Minister mare Pontiana alongside Addibel Lightning. Pontiana is out of the dual Grade 1 winner Shine Again, who is also a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Shiny Band.
This is the fifth blacktype winner for TAPWRIT, putting him 11th in his sire crop with his 60 winners coming in eight different countries.
