It was a stakes double for TAPWRIT over the weekend when Lightofmaine followed up Stylish Style’s Bob Bryant victory with her own win in the Louisiana Legends Soiree Stakes.
Winning or placing in three of her four stakes starts this year before Saturday’s race, Lightofmaine was eager to add another victory to the record in this one-mile dirt run. Breaking just a hair behind one other horse, she was encouraged to go to the lead and entered a duel with the fastest breaker as they raced down the backstretch.
The other runner gave way in the turn and Lightofmaine took a clear lead into the stretch. Other horses came running at her late, but the filly easily held them off to win by a length.
This is the fourth victory for the TAPWRIT daughter, who is trained by Bret Calhoun for Maury and Christopher Harrington. She’s hit the board in seven of 10 starts for nearly $200,000 in earnings in her two seasons of racing.
Lightofmaine is one of two stakes performers out of Pontiana, who also produced the multiple stakes placed Addibel Lightning. Pontiana is out of the dual Grade 1 winner Shine Again with each of Lightofmaine’s first five dams producing at least one stakes performer.
Lightofmaine is one of three blacktype performers for TAPWRIT this year with the stallion having five blacktype winners and seven blacktype performers overall.
