It was a Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star’ for DRAIN THE CLOCK on Friday when Kennyten bound to a 7 ½ length Maiden Special Weight victory on debut at Santa Anita.
Kicking off his career in a five furlong dirt race, Kennyten took the lead nearly immediately to open about a length on the field. One runner moved up to challenge him shortly after but Kennyten was just biding his time.
As they raced into the stretch, Kennyten easily put the field behind him as he romped to a 7 ½ length win with little effort.

Trained by Vladmir Cerin for Holly and David Wilson, Kennyten was purchased in March for $140,000 from Julie Davies at the OBS March Sales of 2-Year-Olds In Training.
Bred by Nicholas Lotz, Kennyten is the second foal out of the winning Goldencents mare Fairywren. She is one of 10 winners from 11 to race out of the stakes winning Marianka, whose runners also include Grade 3 winners Matt’s Broken Vow and High Button Shoes and stakes winner Victory Thrill. Another sister is also the dam of stakes winner Ready for Romance.
The stallion’s first runner kicked DRAIN THE CLOCK off on the right note just over a month ago when when Dream Quest won at Santa Anita as well.
This is the second winner for DRAIN THE CLOCK, who has been a huge hit at this year’s 2-year-old sales with his offerings bringing up to $1.1 million.
