Keeneland Day 1 Wrap: Tapit colts bring $850K, $800K

Tapit’s total sales of $5,420,000 during the first session of the Keeneland September yearling sale included two of the top-five sellers for the day.

With 11 lots sold, Tapit’s average for the Sept. 12 session was $492,727. Tapit was the only sire to have more than 10 horses sell during the prestigious first session.

Hip 154 topped the day at $850,000. Consigned by Mill Ridge Farm, agent, the colt went to Courtlandt Farm. The chestnut Kentucky-bred is out of Grade 2 winner Afleeting Lady, who is a sister to such luminaries as Shackleford, Lady Joanne, and Baghdaria.

Hip 161, consigned by Gainesway, agent, went to John Oxley for $800,000. The gray or roan colt is a half-brother to Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Bayern.

Other Tapit yearlings to be among the top 10 sellers for the day included Hip 138, consigned by Gainesway, that went to Courtlandt Farm for $670,000. The filly, out of Wicked Deed, is a full sister to Adirondack S. (G2) winner Just Wicked. Hip 174, a colt consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, went to Juddmonte Farms for $600,000. The colt’s dam, Amen Hallelujah, is a multiple graded stakes winner of $610,081.
