KARAKONTIE’s Spanish Loveaffair Another Big Money Mare for Sire

KARAKONTIE’s Spanish Loveaffair lit up the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale ring for the second time this year when Shadai Farm went to $600,000 to purchase the filly from Denali Stud.

The multiple stakes winning Spanish Loveaffair herself hasn’t been seen on the track since 2021 but has had a big page update since then. The filly is a full sister to KARAKONTIE’s Grade 1 winning Spendarella, who took out the Del Mar Oaks (G1) this term. Spanish Loveaffair is also a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Spanish Queen with the three stakes winning fillies three of five runners out of Spanish Bunny.

This family also includes champion Bates Motel and Grade 1 winner Hatim among others.

Spanish Loveaffair’s purchase came one day after KARAKONTIE’s  multiple graded stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Princess Grace sold for $1.7 million at Fasig-Tipton to China Horse Club, who plans to send her to Australia to continue her racing career.
