€650,000 Colt for MCKINZIE at Arqana Breeze Up

Just like they’ve been in the U.S. this 2-year-old sales season, MCKINZIE’s first juveniles are in demand in Europe with his only offering at Saturday’s Arqana Breeze Up Sale bringing the fifth highest price at the sale.

Sold for €650,000 to Blanford Bloodstock from Malcolm Bastard’s consignment, the colt was a successful pinhook for his owner. The colt was seen in the ring less than a year ago in Lexington when sold for $200,000 last October at the Fasig-Tipton October Sale to round out the yearling sales season.

It was no surprise the colt was in demand at this sale with turf success close up in his family. His half-brother Up to the Mark won three Grade 1 races on the turf in 2023 and finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) to conclude his career last year on his way to being named U.S. Champion Turf Male.

Their Ghostzapper dam Belle’s Finale is a full sister to the stakes winner Zapper Belle and a half-sister to Gata Bella – both successful broodmares in their own right. Zapper Belle went on to produce the stakes winning Kabella and Gata Bella produced the multiple Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Catapult and stakes winner Ha Ha Tonka, who is also the dam of stakes winner She’sonthewarpath.

There are stakes winners under every dam on this page with his second dam the Grade 1 winning Capote Belle, one of two stakes performers under stakes winner Rhythmical. Rhythmical is one of multiple stakes performers produced by her own dam.

MCKINZIE has seen his first juveniles sell for $750,000, $725,000, $675,000, €650,000 in 2024 following successful appearances in the ring in both their weanling and juvenile seasons.
