It was an Ellis Park maiden winner for DRAIN THE CLOCK on Friday when race favorite For The Win lived up to her win to become her sire’s third winner.
Making her second start in the six-furlong dirt race, the George Weaver trainee was one of the back runners soon out of the gate in the very bunched field. Stuck between horses down the backstretch, she found a hole to slip through going through the turn to give herself a clear spot to run from.
By the time they hit the stretch, she was even with the leaders and pulled away soon after. Her margin shrunk in the final furlong, but For The Win was still comfortably leading to win by a length.
Bred by Steve Long Thoroughbreds, For The Win’s ownership group includes Black Type Thoroughbreds, Brunetti Dugan Stables, Swinbank Stables, Steve Adkisson and Andrew Atkinson.
For The Win is out of the Malibu Moon mare Fleeting Glimpse, whose two foals to race are at least placed. Placed herself, Fleeting Glimpse is a half sister to the multiple Grade 3-placed Tass and two other winners from four others to race out of the stakes placed Masasi.
Masasi is out of a productive stakes-placed mare in Meadow Oaks. That Meadowlake mare is also the dam of multiple Grade 3 winner Custom For Carlos and stakes placed Mimi’s Bling with three of her daughters also producing stakes performers.
DRAIN THE CLOCK has had a banner year with his first juveniles with those who went through the ring in 2026 selling for up to $1.1 million.
