Don Ico T Latest Stakes Winner for TAPWRIT

Stallion ranks among top second-crop sires in 2023

It was a second stakes winner of the year for TAPWRIT on Sunday when Don Ico T took out the Clasico Jorge Washington Stakes (PR-G3) at Camarero.

Racing over 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, the colt chased the leader early on with from his spot just outside that horse with another horse on his outside. Don Ico T continued relentlessly keeping pressure on the pace with the early leader fading around the turn and the other rival also leaving him alone soon after.

Don Ico T wasn’t seriously challenged in the stretch and easily galloped to a 1 ¼ length victory for trainer Jason Lisboa and owner Don Ico Stable PR.

The winner of two of his four starts with two thirds at the Allowance level to complete his record, Don Ico T was bred by St Simon Place.

He is a grandson of stakes placed Flores Island, a half-sister to TAPIT’s Grade 2 winner Thoughtfully and two other stakes performers. The colt’s fourth dam is the Grade 1 winner Furlough with the extended family also including TAPIT’s Horse of the Year son Flightline.

TAPWRIT’s two stakes winners in 2023 puts him second best among all second-crop sires and only one behind the leader. His two stakes performers also puts him fourth in his crop while his runners’ earnings currently have him listed in the sixth spot in that category.

TAPWRIT stands for $10,000 in 2023.
