TAPWRIT recorded a new winner on Saturday when Amstrong won a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight in his third start.
Trained by Jose Francisco D’Angelo, the colt was racing over a mile for the first time in the 1 1/16 mile synthetic race. He was happy to shadow the leader for the first half of the race before taking over with just over a quarter left to run after a brief duel. From there, the race favorite romped away from the field to win easily by four lengths.
Co-bred by Gainesway and Bridlewood and sold from the Gainesway consignment at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, the colt races for Soldi Stable and Ohana Racing with two top three placings in his three career starts.
Amstrong is the first foal out of two-time winner Abbreviate, a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Solve. They are out of a stakes-placed half-sister to stakes winners Averted View and Turn Away among the five stakes performers out of Averti. The colt’s fourth dam is Grade 1 winner Safe Place, who also produced multiple Grade 1 winner Defensive Play.
Abbreviate also foaled a TAPWRIT filly last year as well.
TAPWRIT is the sire of nine winners in 2023 with two blacktype winners and two stakes winners last weekend alone. The stallion also sired the sale topper at this month’s TTA 2-Year-Old Sale.
