SPUN TO RUN Juvenile Impressive in Churchill Debut

SPUN TO RUN juvenile son Spun D M C caught the eye on debut with a 2 ½ length Churchill Downs Maiden Special Weight win on Friday.

Starting his career going six furlongs on the dirt, Spun D M C shadowed two horses early before making a move around the turn to battle for the lead. The others didn’t give it away easily, but by the time they reached the stretch, Spun D M C started to build an advantage.

He took the lead soon after and pulled away to a 2 ½ length win to back up the bullets he’d fired in two of his last three works with his final work ranking second among 75 as well.

Trained by Randy Morse, who owns him with UPCountry Farm, Spun D M C was a $95,000 2-year-old purchase earlier this year.

He was bred by Charles Kidder and Nancy Cole out of Smart Strike mare Critic’s Choice, who now has six winners from seven to race. The mare’s other runners include six-time winner Unbridled Critic and five-time winner Hardy Choice.

Out of Grade 1 winner Starrer, Critic’s Choice is a half-sister to two stakes performers, including the dam of 2023 champion Just F Y I with a third half-sister producing stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Uncle Benny. This is also the family of three-time Grade 1 winner Stellar Jayne and Grade 1 winner Star Billing.

Critic’s Choice has a yearling OLYMPIAD filly to come from that stallion’s first crop.
