Big Pedigrees Lead Keeneland September Book 1 For Gainesway

Only a little over a week after Gainesway graduate Sierra Leone added another Grade 1 placing to his record in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), Gainesway heads to the Keeneland September Yearling Sale with 33 horses selling in Book 1.

Gainesway’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates have found much success on the track with 21 Grade 1 winners hailing from the consignment in the last decade. Among those are Belmont Stakes (G1) winners Arcangelo and Creator and Grade 1 winning Gainesway stallions OLYMPIAD and TAPIT TRICE.

Gainesway’s first offering of the sale is Hip 9 – a half-brother to one of those Grade 1 winners. The OLYMPIAD colt out of Lady Pewitt is a half-brother to champion Jaywalk and to multiple stakes winner Danzatrice. A seven-time winner whose record includes three stakes victories and a Grade 3 placing, Danzatrice is the dam of OLYMPIAD’s studmate TAPIT TRICE.

This family is deep with Grade 3 placed Jayhawk under the colt’s second dam and Grade 2 winners Mission Impazible and Forest Camp among four stakes winners out of the Lady Pewitt’s stakes winning granddam La Paz. This page has had quite a few stakes updates as well with the colt’s half-sister Magnanimous seeing her juvenile Jupiter finishing second in the Victoria S. after the catalog was released with another half-sister the dam of TAPIT  juvenile Abdul, who was second in the My Dear.

Lady Pewitt returned to OLYMPIAD after the colt was born and produced another colt by the stallion this year.

Keeping it in the family, a TAPIT full brother to Grade 1 winner TAPIT TRICE sells as Hip 300 as he tries to join his brother as Grade 1 winners offered by Gainesway. That grandson of Lady Pewitt will sell during the second day of Book 1.

Coming into the ring with a huge family behind him is Hip 11, an Into Mischief half-brother to TAPIT’s 2025 stakes winner Will Take It.

The colt’s dam Lady Take Charge is a daughter of the great Take Charge Lady, who won three Grade 1s and was named Broodmare of the Year in 2013. Take Charge Lady produced champion Will Take Charge and Grade 1 winners Take Charge Indy and As Time Goes By among her eight winners.

Her daughters have also been successful in the shed with champion Take Charge Brandi, three-time Grade 1 winner Omaha Beach, and multiple graded stakes winning Gainesway stallion CHARGE IT calling Take Charge Lady their granddam. An Into Mischief half-brother to CHARGE IT sells as Hip 760 with Gainesway in the second book.

The second foal out of TAPIT’s stakes winning Matera sells as Hip 35 on behalf of Don Alberto. From the first crop of Life Is Good, the colt’s Curlin half-sister sold for $1.9 million with Gainesway last year in Saratoga as just the tip of the iceberg on the exciting pedigree behind this yearling.

His dam is one of four stakes winners out of Grade 3 winner Miss Macy Sue, who produced dual Grade 1 winner Liam’s Map, Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed Not This Time, and stakes winner and Grade 2 placed Taylor S. One of her sisters is also the dam of Grade 2-placed Virginia Eloise and to the dam of juvenile stakes placed Empire Bella, whose stakes placing came after the catalog was released. Miss Macy Sue is one of two stakes performers out of her own dam and a half-sister to champion Alnajim Almodeea.

A Flightline half-sister to Grade 1 winner Volatile sells as Hip 38 with Gainesway.

Out of the stakes winning Melody Lady, she is a half-sister to three winners overall with her other siblings include Volatile’s stakes winning full sister Buy Sell Hold. That mare has went on to produce Grade 2 winner Showcase and multiple stakes placed Bourbon Bash. Melody Lady is out of dual Grade 1 winner Lady Tak, who produced three stakes winners and the dams or granddams of two other stakes performers. One of those runners is Stanley House, who won the Niagara S. after the catalog was released.

A Good Magic half-sister to two stakes winners sells as Hip 108 with Gainesway.

The daughter of Bernardini mare Secret Jewel is a half-sister to five winners from six to race with the group led by Grade 3 winner Twenty Carat and stakes winner Point Proven.

Secret Jewel is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winning Shared Account, Grade 2 winner Sparkle Blue, and stakes winner Colonial Flag among the four stakes performers out of Silk N’ Sapphire. Shared Account went on to produce Grade 1 winner Sharing and stakes winner Riley’s Choice. This page also earned an update the Thursday before the sale when Grade 2 winner Sparkle Blue finished second in the One Dreamer S. at Kentucky Downs.

One Gainesway offering after that yearling is Hip 115, a TAPIT daughter of Grade 1 winner Sharing.

Sharing is already the dam of a winner from her first foal after Sharedshenanigans broke her maiden on debut. That’s the only named foal for the mare, who became a second-generation Breeders’ Cup winner with her Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) win following in the footsteps of her Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) winning dam Shared Account.

Shared Account is the dam of two stakes winners as one of two stakes producers out of Silk N’ Sapphire with another half-sister the granddam of a stakes placer. It should also be noted that Point Proven, who is on the page as a stakes performer is now a stakes winner after winning the John Henry S. after the catalog was released.

A half-sister to Gainesway’s Grade 1 winning graduate Eskimo Kisses sells as Hip 118.

The TAPIT filly out of Silver Colors is also a half-sister to stakes winner Princess Aliyah and Grade 1 placed Silver Ride. Silver Colors has produced five winners overall from six to race and is doing a good job of keeping her dam’s legacy alive. That dam is the champion and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Winning Colors, who produced two stakes performers herself.

She has done even better as a producer of producers with 15 stakes performers under her name including champion Adjudicate, Grade 3 winner Oujda, and six other stakes winners. Oujda also provided an update to the page recently with a win in the Sweet Briar Too at Woodbine.

Hip 128 is a Gun Runner son of dual champion Songbird, whose three runners include a winner. That winner, Rumours Have It, added a second win to her record after the catalog was released.

Songbird is out of Grade 2 winner Ivanavinalot, who is also the granddam of Grade 3 winner Mico Margarita.  This family includes TAPIT’s Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed Tap It To Win, Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Souper Stonehenge, and 14 other stakes winners under her first three dams. Songbird is also the granddam of Hip 129, a Flightline son of Arrogate mare Song Gate, whose first foal is a 2-year-old TAPIT filly named Tapit’s Song.

A Flightline filly out of Grade 1 winner Unrivaled Belle is offered as Hip 198 by Gainesway.

The filly is a three-quarter sister to TAPIT’s dual champion Unique Bella and one other winner out of their dam. One of Unrivaled Belle’s half-sisters is the dam of Australian Grade 3 winner Osmose and U.S. stakes winner Paris Style while another half-sister produced the stakes pleased Fleur. Fleur added another stakes placing to her name after the catalog was released as well to take her earnings to $602,712.

Unrivaled Belle is one of four stakes producers out of Grade 2 winner Queenie Belle, whose daughters produced Grade 3 winner Raise Cain and Grade 1-placed Sahib.

The second foal out of Grade 1 winner Wicked Whisper sells as Hip 217 a year after her first foal sold for $750,000 at this sale.

Wicked Whisper is one of three stakes winners and four stakes performers overall out of Zayanna, who has produced four winners from six to race. Her others include Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Point of Honor, stakes winner Velvet Mood and stakes placed Admiral Jimmy. Zayanna was unplaced but is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Mr Freeze and Grade 3 winners Dilemma and Heavenly Ransom among her dam’s four stakes winners.

A TAPIT half-brother to Grade 1 winning Gainesway stallion SPUN TO RUN sells as Hip 223 during the second session of Book 1.

The colt is out of the stakes winning Yawkey Way, who also produced stakes winner and multiple Grade 3 placed Informed Patriot. She also produced two stakes performer three-quarter siblings to this yearling – stakes winner Tap It All and stakes placed Extreme Force. In all, this mare has produced six winners from seven to race and is one of two stakes performers out of her own dam. There are a further three stakes winners under Hip 223’s third dam with that mare a full sister to Grade 1 winner All Fired Up.

Hip 234 by Gun Runner is out of the stakes placed Akron Moon, who has produced three-time Grade 1 winner Bellafina and stakes winner and multiple graded stakes placed Diamond King among her three winners from four to race.

Akron Moon is one of two stakes performers out of her own three-time stakes winning dam Akronism alongside Grade 2 winner Have At It. She is also one of two stakes producers out of Akronism, whose daughter Traffic Blimp produced two graded stakes placers. Akron Moon is a seventh-generation stakes producer with others farther back in the family including champion Johnny D, that one a full brother to her third dam.

Hip 298 is another by Flightline, this one a half-brother to Canadian Turf Male Say The Word.

A Grade 1 winner in Canada and Grade 1-placed runner in the U.S., Say The Word is one of two stakes winners out of Danceforthecause alongside Grade 2 winner Rideforthecause. In all, Danceforthecause has produced five winners from five to race. Danceforthecause was unraced but is a full sister to the stakes winner Grand Style, who produced her own stakes winner.

This is a strong Canadian family with the colt’s third dam the legendary Dance Smartly. That mare is the dam of champion and Grade 1 winner Dancethruthedawn – whose grandson was second in the Niagara S. recently – and four other stakes performers. One generation back under another champion in Classy ‘n Smart is Grade 1 winner and champion sire Smart Strike, Grade 1 winner Full of Wonder, and Grade 2 winner Strike Smartly.

Danceforthecause had a colt from OLYMPIAD’s second crop this year.

A granddaughter of stakes winner and bluehen mare Quiet Dance named Just Dance sells as Hip 299.

The filly is out of the stakes winning A.P. Indy mare Dance Quietly, who produced stakes winner Dance d’Oro among her four winners. The mare’s winning daughter Glory and Power is also the dam of TAPIT’s stakes placed Game Warden, who recently added a third stakes placing to his record in the Birdstone S. at Saratoga.

Dance Quietly is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Saint Liam, Grade 1 winner Funtastic, Grade 2 winner Quiet Giant, Grade 3 winner Congressionalhonor, and Grade 1 placed Miss Besilu. Quiet Giant produced Horse of the Year and top sire Gun Runner while an unraced half-sister is the dam of Grade 1 winner Buster’s Ready. In all, Quiet Dance has 10 stakes winners seven other stakes performers under her name.

Gainesway offers an Army Mule half-brother to champion Soul of An Angel as Hip 320.

The colt’s dam Factor One has produced two winners from three to race and has a Basin filly to come as well. Soul of An Angel was named champion last year after a campaign that saw her win the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and two other stakes before selling for $2.6 million in early 2025. Factor One is a second-generation Grade 1 producer with her stakes placed dam One Last Salute producing Grade 1 winner Homeboykris among two stakes performers and five winners.

Each of the four dams on this page have produced stakes performers with six stakes winners and eight other stakes performers named.

The second foal out of Grade 1 winner Hard Not to Love is the final Book 1 offering by Gainesway when the Curlin colt sells as Hip 354.

Hard Not to Love is a half-sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Wonder Gadot and stakes winner and Grade 2 winner Solemn Tribute out of two-time Canadian Broodmare of the Year Loving Vindication. The Grade 1 form is strong across the page with Loving Vindication a half-sister to the dam of Grade 1 winner Secret Spice with six stakes winners and three other stakes performers named on this page.

Hard Not to Love’s first foal was a TAPIT filly who sold for $925,000 last year to OXO Equine and has been named So Like Silk. She had a full brother to that filly this year as well.
