MCKINZIE Weanlings Led by $310,000 Colt at Keeneland November

Weanlings from MCKINZIE’s third crop brought up to $310,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale when a colt was purchased by Bolter Bloodstock from Gainesway.

The colt is out of the young Malibu Moon mare Beach Diva, who was a three-time winner herself. The mare is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Western Aristocrat and Grade 2 winner Zindaya among four stakes performers out of Aristocratic Lady. As a broodmare, Zindaya has produced dual Grade 1 winner Carl Spackler and Grade 3-placed Sandtrap with both registering blacktype after the catalog was released.

Beach Diva is also a half-sister to the Grade 3-placed Eckersley and to the stakes placed dam of Grade 3 winner Noble Roger. In all, five different horses under this colt’s second dam were listed with updates on his catalog page.

MCKINZIE also saw weanlings sell for $235,000, $210,000, $210,000, $210,000, etc. during the sale. Mares in foal to MCKINZIE sold for up to $230,000 as well.

A leading freshman sire in 2024, MCKINZIE’s first crop includes two Grade 1 winners and four Grade 1 performers in all.

He is the only stallion to sire the winners of the Frizette S. (G1) and Champagne S. (G1) in the same year since Mr. Prospector in 1987. Bold Ruler also achieved the feat in 1964 and 1967.
