Lindsylu became ANCHOR DOWN’s newest winner on Friday when the filly broke her maiden in her second start at Oaklawn Park.
Trained by Steve Asmussen for Tobey Morton, Lindsylu was first out of the gate in the six furlong race and controlled the pace throughout. She opened up a length lead quickly under Ricardo Santana Jr. but one horse decided to pressure her and cut her lead into half a length as they entered the turn.
Lindsylu didn’t seem that bothered and when she turned into the stretch, she regained her advantage before pulling away throughout the final furlongs. In the end, she finished 4 ¼ lengths ahead of the second place horse with the third 6 ¼ lengths behind the winner.
Bred by Gainesway and Marylou Whitney Stables, Lindsylu was an $85,000 2-year-old last year when Morton purchased her.
Lindsylu is the first foal out of the winning Tale of the Cat mare Storied Tale, who is a daughter of Grade 3 winner Caminadora. Camaindora produced four winners from six to race while her stakes winning dam produced four from seven to race.
ANCHOR DOWN’s 17 winners from 30 starters puts him at 56.7% winners from starters with 13.3% stakes performers with both the best of any Kentucky second crop sire.
