A juvenile by Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner SPUN TO RUN sold for over 16 times his stud fee at this week’s OBS Spring 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale when bringing $165,000 from Clear Stars Stable.
Consigned by McKathan Bros. Sales, the New York-bred is out of Tiz Wonderful mare A Cut Ahead. That mare has produced three winners from four to race, including four-time winner Ocean’s Reserve. A Cut Ahead is a half-sister to the Grade 3 winner Bryan’s Jewel and to the dams of three stakes performers, including Grade 3-placed Blessed Touch.
The blacktype continues under the filly’s third dam with that stakes-placed mare producing multiple Grade 1 winner Left Bank and the stakes winning trio of Marsheslew, Flag On the Play, and Code Blum among her five stakes performers.
SPUN TO RUN was also the sire of a $120,000 filly purchased by Sallusto and Kimmel as agents for Lawson Racing.
Bred in Arizona, the Grassroots Training & Sales-consigned filly caught the eye last week with a :9.4 breeze during the Under Tack Show. She is the first foal out of the stakes placed Sierra Aleone. That mare is one of three winners out of a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Part The Seas, who also produced TAPIT’s multiple stakes winning son Congruent and stakes winner Oceans Map.
The page also includes Canadian champion Portcullis and stakes winner Betwixting with stakes horses under each dam with racing age foals.
SPUN TO RUN has seen 14 of his 18 juveniles offered this year sell for $165,000, $120,000, $105,000, etc.
