Showing talent from the start, Wise Anchor became the eighth winner for ANCHOR DOWN on Tuesday with a professional win at Delta Downs.
Breaking among the leaders in the seven furlong race, Wise Anchor raced on the leaders’ heels as they dueled in front. Racing on the rail early on, Wise Anchor took advantage of a hole far into the backstretch run to switch to the outside as he prepared to make his run in the turn.
Going of as the race favorite, Wise Anchor proved why bettors had confidence in him as he entered the stretch. Briefly head-to-head with the leaders, he quicky put them behind and was given some added motivation when another horse tried to apply pressure as he raced away. Wise Anchor toyed with that rival throughout the stretch to win 1 ½ lengths under a hand ride in the final furlong.
Trained by Scott Gelner for Anton Kubacak, Wise Anchor has finished on the board in all but one of his career starts.
The Michael L Martin LLC-bred Wise Anchor is the first foal out of eight-time winner Oh Wise One. That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 1-placewd King Congie, stakes winner Chicks Dig Scars, and the dam of stakes winner and Grade 2-placed King Kranz.
Out of a Dunkirk mare, Wise Anchor is bred on a similar cross to his sire TAPIT’S dual champion Unique Bella and his Grade 2 winner West Coast Belle in addition to ANCHOR DOWN’s own winning daughter Anchorette.
Now with eight winners from his first crop, Anchor Down’s 47.1% winners to runners is better than top five freshmen sires Nyquist (37.5% winners to runners), Laoban (33.3%), Outwork (35.5%), and fellow Tapit son Frosted (25.9%).
