DRAIN THE CLOCK is set to shine at this weekend’s Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale when he sends 12 New York-breds through the ring.
Coming into the ring with an update is Hip 337, DRAIN THE CLOCK’s second yearling on offer.
Consigned by Taylor Made and bred by Towering Cumulus this will be his third time going to a sale after selling in November and February. The colt’s dam Picturesque is a successful broodmare with five winners from six to race including Arctic Outbreak, who registered another win on July 2.
Picturesque is a half-sister to seven winners from nine to race out of the stakes placed Miss Kate. That Storm Cat mare produced the stakes winning trio of Outplay, Raconteur, and Katerbug, in addition to the dam of Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Spielberg. Miss Kate’s blacktype isn’t a rare sighting for her Grade 1 winning dam Dream Deal, who also produced Grade 1 winner Clear Mandate, Grade 2 winner Dream Scheme, and stakes winner A Diehl among her five stakes performers.
There are 26 stakes performers listed on this page, led by champion To The Victory and Grade 1 winners Clear Mandate, Strong Mandate, and Romantic Vision.
Hip 345’s stakes winning half-brother Doc Sullivan provided him a well-timed update with a win in the John Morrissey S. on July 31.
That colt isn’t the only update for this Paramount Sales offering either. His dam Queen Frostine went to four winners from six to race after the catalog was released when her 3-year-old Last of My Kind broke her maiden by 3 ½ lengths on July 21. This colt’s half-brother Seaver also provided an update with earnings of $185,783 after the catalog’s release. The only one of Queen Frostine’s runners not to provide a post-catalog update is 12-time winner and stakes placed Fix Me a Sandwich.
Part of Seamus Coughlan’s breeding program, the winning Queen Frostine is a half-sister to the stakes placed Cibolo. The pair are out of a two-time winning half-sister to Grade 1 winner Traitor and Grade 2 winner Sun King among the five stakes performers out of Clever But Costly. That mare is also the matriarch of a family that includes Grade 1 winners Peeping Tom and Beach Control.
There are 24 stakes performers named on this page and the success continues far after that with Queen Frostine a fourth-generation stakes producer with five of her first six dams producing stakes horses.
Both of the winning siblings of Hip 360 gave her an update after the catalog was released when registering placings.
The Steve Dallais-bred filly offered by C & S Thoroughbreds is the fifth foal of Secret Candy, who has seen two of her three runners win with that group led by four-time winner Dorth’s Sol Dancer. Secret Candy is a half-sister to multiple winners with her Grade 3-placed half-sister You Missed It also the dam of the stakes winning Take Another Card.
Each of Secret Candy’s first six dams have produced a stakes performer or earned blacktype of their own with her granddam Winendynme a stakes winner who was Grade 2 placed before producing seven winners.
Secret Candy was bred to DRAIN THE CLOCK’s studmate CHARGE IT in his first season at stud this year.
Thorndale Farm is the breeder and consignor of Hip 364, a DRAIN THE CLOCK half-sister to the stakes winning Brother O’Connell.
This filly is also a half-sister to the multiple stakes placed Single Verse among the eight winners out of the stakes winning Shared Dreams. A stakes winner in the U.S. and stakes placed in England, Shared Dreams is out of multiple Grade 2 winner Coretta, who was also second in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1). Also producing eight winners just like her daughter, Coretta is one of four stakes performers out stakes winner Free at Last, who comes from a strong family.
Free at Last also produced multiple stakes winner Mikado with Rosa Parks and Trumpet Sound earning blacktype and Rosa Parks producing a stakes winner and another stakes producer.
A Barry Ostrager-bred half-sister to the stakes placed Ready A.P. sells with Hunter Valley as Hip 541 on Monday.
Ready A.P. is one of four winners from five to race out of four-time winner Girlaboutown. That mare’s 4-year-old is a winner in 2025 and broke the $100,000 in earnings mark after the catalog was released when raising his earnings to $107,898.
Girlaboutown is out of the Grade 2 winner Carmandia, who herself is out of a half-sister to the dam of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Closing Argument. All four of the dams on this page have stakes performers under their name either as a dam or granddam with the filly’s second and fourth dams also earning their own blacktype.
The final DRAIN THE CLOCK yearling to go through the ring is Hip 594 consigned by Gainesway.
A chestnut filly, this April-born yearling is a half-sister to the stakes placed duo of Lexington Humor and Gangseo Giant. Dam Lexington Pearl saw her seventh runner from seven of racing age hit the track after juvenile daughter Miami Style placed third in her second start in mid-July.
One of 11 winners out of Lexington Girl, Lexington Pearl is a half-sister to stakes winners Whirlin Curlin and Lexington Street. There are even more stakes performers under this yearling’s third dam with that Grade 2 winner producing three stakes performers with her two stakes winners also producing four stakes performers between them.
This sale takes place on August 10 and 11 with the Sunday session starting at 7pm and the Monday session starting at noon.
