TAPWRIT’s Amstrong scored his second straight stakes victory on Saturday evening when he won the Showing Up Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Taking up his place near the back of the field in the 1 1/16-mile synthetic race, Amstrong raced five paths away from the rail down the backstretch. Moving closer in the far turn, another rival pushed him another path wide coming into the turn but that wasn’t enough to deter him from going for the lead.
It took most of the stretch run for Amstrong to wrestle command but by the time they hit the line, he was a neck in front.
Now the winner of three of the four stakes he’s run in, Amstrong is the winner of four of his eight career starts with $168,970 in earnings for trainer Jose Francisco D’Angelo and owners Soldi Stable and Ohana Racing Stable.
Bred by Gainesway and Bridlewood Farm, Amstrong was bred in Kentucky out of the Harlan’s Holiday mare Abbreviate. His fourth dam is the Grade 1 winner Safe Play, who also produced dual Grade 1 winner Defensive Play.
Belmont Stakes (G1) winner TAPWRIT stands for $7,500 in 2024 with 75% of his runners winning or placing on the track.
