It was a fifth career victory in six starts for TAPWRIT’s Talion Bars in the Krasnodar Derby on Saturday.
Breaking well in the 1 ½ mile dirt race, the gray raced just behind the leader three paths wide before dropping back a few lengths when another horse raced keenly alongside him. He resettled in midpack still a few paths from the rail as he bided his time down the backstretch.
Again moving closer to the leader going into the final turn, he stuck his nose in front as they raced into the stretch and was all alone from there. With his jockey looking behind him a few times before easing Talion Bars near the line, the colt won by two lengths in the end.
Talion Bars only loss came in his second start as a 2-year-old when he was second. The 3-year-old has won from seven furlongs to 1 1/2 miles in those five victories, showing his versatility over all distances.
Bred by Gainesway and Bridlewood Farm, Talion Bars was sold for $105,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale when purchased by Kinga Farm from Legacy Bloodstock
