TAPIT’s Scylla Registers First Stakes Victory in Shawnee (G3)

It was a second straight victory for TAPIT’s Scylla on Saturday when she won the Shawnee Stakes (G3) for her first career stakes win.

The Juddmonte homebred prompted the pace early in the 1 1/16-mile dirt race and refused to let the leader have it easy at any point. Making a serious challenge once they reached the far turn at Churchill Downs, Scylla had a clear lead soon after the stretch run began.

The filly pulled away throughout the closing stages of the race to win by 3 ¼ lengths and take her record to four wins in six starts.

Trained by Bill Mott, Scylla has never finished off the board and finished third in the Doubledogdare Stakes (G3) in her stakes debut in April.

The filly is another successful TAPIT runner out of champion Close Hatches and is a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Tacitus and to the exciting runner Batten Down. Close Hatches has four winners from four to race with all four by TAPIT.

TAPIT’s success with the family is also found under Scylla’s second dam with Close Hatches a half-sister to the stallion’s stakes placed Hail. Close Hatches is also a full sister to the stakes winning dam of champion Idiomatic.

This is the second stakes winner in a week for TAPIT, who saw Dataman win last weekend’s Cliff Hanger Stakes.
