TAPIT’s May Day Ready joined a special group of runners on Sunday when she stayed undefeated at Kentucky Downs with a One Dreamer S. victory and became one of only a few horses in the 21st century to win a match race in a stakes.
Facing only one other challenger in the 1 1/16-mile race, May Day Ready raced a few lengths behind Miwa down the backstretch as that one made a fast break out of the gate. In the turn, May Day Ready moved closer to prepare for her stretch run.
With just under a quarter mile, May Day Ready made her challenge and the pair dueled briefly. Miwa gave in running up the hill to the wire with May Day Ready running to a 4 1/2 length victory.
Trained by Richard Mandella for KatieRich Stables, May Day Ready’s other start at the track came as a juvenile when she won the Kentucky Downs Juvenile S. in a campaign that also saw her win the Jessamine S. (G2) and finish second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1). In all, the filly has won five of her starts for over $1.6 million in earnings.
Bred by White Birch Farm, May Day Ready is one of two winners from three to race out of the Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Nemoralia. That mare is out of the multiple stakes winning Alina with the family also including Grade 2 winner Bear River.
TAPIT is coming off an August that saw his offspring find success both in the sales ring on the track with multiple stakes winners and a huge influence at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.
