TAPIT TRICE To Enter Stud at Gainesway Upon Retirement

Whisper Hill Farm & Gainesway have announced that Grade 1 winner and classic-placed TAPIT TRICE will enter stud at Gainesway upon his retirement from racing.

TAPIT TRICE, a Gainesway homebred, is out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Dunkirk mare Danzatrice, who herself is a half-sister to the Champion 2-Year-Old Filly, Jaywalk. He was subsequently sold to Mandy Pope’s Whisper Hill Farm for $1.3 million at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

A winner at two, TAPIT TRICE established himself as a top-class racehorse early in his three-year-old campaign earning TDN ‘Rising Star’ status at Gulfstream.  He quickly validated that distinction in his next start with a two-length triumph in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3).  TAPIT TRICE followed that with an exhilarating win in the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland and consequently entered the starting gate as the favorite in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. The second half of TAPIT TRICE’s sophomore campaign saw him finish in the money in both the Belmont Stakes (G1) and the Travers Stakes (G1).

“Winning the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes in partnership with Gainesway has been a real highlight for our racing stable,” stated Mandy Pope of Whisper Hill Farm.  “We are extremely excited about Tapit Trice’s potential at stud and will be supporting him with some of our best mares.”

TAPIT TRICE came back strong at four, winning his seasonal bow in the Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3) by a commanding 5 ¼ lengths while earning a 101 Beyer Speed Figure, the third triple digit Beyer of his career.  He most recently picked up another marquee victory in the Woodward Stakes (G2) at the Belmont at the Big A meet.

“I could not be prouder or more excited to partner with Mandy [Pope] and bring this exciting homebred son of Tapit back to Gainesway Farm,” said Antony Beck. “TAPIT TRICE is line-bred 3×4 to both A.P. Indy and Unbridled, two of the most influential stallions of this era.  Our hope is he follows in his father’s footsteps.”

In total, TAPIT TRICE has won 6 of 12 starts, and compiled earnings in excess of $1.7 million. TAPIT TRICE is currently being pointed towards a start in the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).

A stud fee will be announced upon his retirement.
