TAPIT went four-for-four at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale this week when his four offered all sold for an average of $835,000 with the demand for the stallion’s yearlings high.
The most expensive was a $1.5 million colt purchased by Flying Dutchmen from the Lane’s End consignment late in the first session of the sale. The fourth most expensive of the session, he was also the sixth most expensive offering of the sale.
The colt is the second foal out of Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Mopotism, who saw her full brother win again after the catalog was released. Their dam Peppy Rafaela is a half-sister to the Grade 2 winner Songster.
“We are not going to buy anything close to him any time soon, probably, but we wanted to buy one or two really nice colts this year to have something to race for next year. We will do our best with this guy and see what happens,” said Flying Dutchmen’s Travis Boersma.
Case Clay Thoroughbred Management went to $850,000 for a TAPIT filly from the Gainesway consignment during the second session.
The filly is the second foal out of the Grade 2 winner Sneaking Out, whose first is a MCKINZIE filly. Sneaking Out is one of five stakes performers out of the stakes placed Maddie’s Odyssey. That mare also produced Grade 3 winner Grecian Fire and the stakes winning Been Studying Her and Smuggler’s Run in addition to TAPIT’s stakes placed Personal Pursuit.
Maddie’s Odyssey is also one of three stakes performers out of her own dam with that mare also the dam of another stakes producer.
Clay was also the buyer of Hip 135, a filly out of Grade 1 winner Rosalind, for $500,000.
Rosalind is the dam of the stakes placed Chanceux among her winners with her War Fron 3-year-old La Madonna also winning recently. Rosalind is a half-sister to the stakes placed American Diva, who is the granddam of the stakes winning City Park, and a half-sister to High Draw, who produced the stakes winning Spooled.
There are stakes winners under each dam on the page with those listed including Grade 1 winners Life’s Hope, Shamekha, and A Little Kiss.
The Atlantic Bloodstock-purchased Hip 98 rounded out the group when selling for $490,000 from Black-Albina Thoroughbred Services.
The filly is a full sister to TAPIT’s Grade 3 winner and Grade 2-placed Mufajaah, who produced stakes placed Mejthaam. Her Grade 2 winning dam Carolyn’s Cat is also the dam of the stakes placed Aunt Cat from her six winners. Carolyn’s Cat comes from a long line of stakes performers with her dam a Grade 3 winner and granddam Grade 2 placed. In all, there are 21 stakes performers listed under the three dams on the page.
TAPIT’s offerings averaged $835,000 for the third highest average and fourth highest median of any stallion at the sale with at least two sold.
