A pair of high-priced Tapit offerings added fuel to a record-setting OBS March sale of 2-year-olds in training that set records in gross and average price.
Leading the way for the Tapits at the March 15 session was a $1.1 million filly out of the graded stakes-placed Giant’s Causeway mare Arienza, a daughter of Horse of the Year Azeri, who sold to Larry Best’s OXO Equine as Hip 349. Bred by Robert and Lawana Low and consigned by Tom McCrocklin, the chestnut filly worked a :21 2/5 quarter-mile at the breeze show.
Later in the session, trainer John Servis went to $875,000 to acquire Hip 425, a chestnut Tapit colt out of graded winner Cherokee Queen (by Cherokee Run). Bred by Doug and Felicia Branham, the colt breezed an eighth in :10 3/5 for de Meric Sales.
