TAPIT Filly Adds Second G2 to Record in Lake Placid

TAPIT’s May Day Ready was indeed ready for her assignment in Saturday’s Lake Placid S. (G2) when she added another graded stakes win to her record from the front end in the race.

She ran into some trouble at the start of the one-mile race, but proved it was no problem when asking Jose Ortiz to let her go to the lead. The jockey allowed her to decide her own position and she happily galloped in that spot for the next seven furlongs.

Ortiz showed he was confident in his mount when he peeked behind him in the turn and allowed his mount to speed up just a little more with a quarter left to run. The jockey urged her with a hand ride going into the final furlong before asking for more with his whip in the final furlong.

In the end, May Day Ready had half a length on a fast-closing foe, who was the only one within 2 ½ lengths of the winner at the line.

Trained by Joseph Lee for KatieRich Stables, the White Birch Farm-bred was winning her fourth career race in eight starts to take her earnings to $1.3 million. The filly was also the winner of last year’s Jessamine S. (G2) and Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S. with a second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) and third in the Wonder Again S. (G3) also on her resume.

A $325,000 2-year-old purchase last year, May Day Ready is one of two winners from two to race out of Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Nemoralia. That mare is out of the stakes winning Alina and is a 10th generation stakes producer.

This is the sixth stakes winner of the year for TAPIT, who has also registered 11 stakes performers in 2025.
