Dream Maker, a 2-year-old Tapit colt and full brother to 2017 Del Mar Oaks (G1) winner Dream Dancing, made an impressive racing debut and was named a ‘TDN Rising Star’ after his victory June 7 at Churchill Downs.
Sent off as the even-money favorite in the 5½-furlong maiden special weight, Dream Maker trailed early under jockey Julien Leparoux but circled the field on the turn and drew clear in the stretch to score by three lengths in 1:04.65 (VIDEO).
A John C. Oxley homebred, Dream Maker had been breezing swiftly all spring for trainer Mark Casse. Dream Maker posted a bullet 47.20 half-mile gate breeze at Keeneland May 8 before firing another gate bullet in 46.80 at the same track 10 days later.
Dream Maker is out of To Dream About, a daughter of Oxley’s 2001 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Monarchos and his 1999 Eclipse champion older mare Beautiful Pleasure.
