Tapit Today (TAPIT) stormed home on the Belmont turf in the Athenia S. (G3) to secure her first graded stakes win, and notch her sire TAPIT‘s 85th lifetime graded stakes winner. The Chad Brown trainee has won or placed in 8 of her 10 lifetime starts, and has amassed earnings of over $212,000 for owners William H. Lawrence and Bradley Thoroughbreds.
Bred in Kentucky by Gainesway, Tapit Today is out of the Storm Creek mare La Nez, who herself was a three-time stakes winner and Grade 1-placed as a two-year-old.
Tapit Today’s graded stakes win comes as a huge update before the November Breeding Stock Sale. Consigned by Gainesway, she will be sold as a racing or broodmare prospect at Keeneland as hip 1626.
TAPIT has emerged as top broodmare sire. Last year, TAPIT was the number one active broodmare sire by graded stakes winners. In 2020, daughters of TAPIT are responsible for three Grade 1 winners, 17 graded stakes horses, 25 blacktype horses and nearly $13 million in progeny earnings. TAPIT is destined to leave a lasting legacy on the breed.
