Skywire, racing in the colors of Gary Barber and Lucio Tucci, got up in the final strides to win Saturday’s edition of the Eclipse Stakes (G2) at Woodbine, scoring by just over a length at odds of 17-1.
This marks the second blacktype victory for the 4-year-old son of AFLEET ALEX . Skywire won the 2019 edition of the Wando Stakes, and after a runner-up finish in the Marine Stakes (G3) he was the favorite going into the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine last year. The Mark Casse trainee now has $250,000 in earnings and is AFLEET ALEX ‘s fourteenth graded stakes winner.
Skywire was bred in Ontario by William Graham, out of the unraced Gone West mare Meandering Stream – whose second dam is Canadian blue hen No Class.
AFLEET ALEX stands at Gainesway for $6,500.
