It was a 50th Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star’ for the great TAPIT on Friday when Signator romped to a 4 ½ length score. Making his second start over a mile on the dirt at Aqueduct, the colt was near the back of the tightly packed field and made his move as they entered the stretch. From there, he shouwed why he was a $1.7 million OBS April purchase this year by the ownership group that includes West Point Thoroughbreds, Woodford Racing, Gainesway Stable, Phipps Stable, Ken Langone, Edward Hudson and Lane’s End Racing.
The colt is another star for the successful broodmare Pension, whose other foals also include TAPIT’s Grade 2 winning daughter Thoughtfully. That mare was sold as a yearling by Gainesway for $950,000.
