After a pair of runner-up finishes, RAGING BULL’s The Magic Ofmovies visited the winner’s circle on Friday with a win in a Laurel Park Maiden Special Weight.
Trained by Michael Trombetta for the Estate of her late breeder Larry Johnson, the Virginia-bred was making her first start outside of Colonial Downs in this 5 ½ furlong turf race. She had a bobble at the start when she stumbled but quickly put that behind her and sprinted to the lead.
Keeping the rail position she broke from, she didn’t make a move from the rail until drifting a bit in the upper stretch. Ismerio Villalobos stayed patient with her, however, and kept her focused to the line with The Magic Ofmovies an easy 2 ½ length winner despite the start.
All three of The Magic Ofmovies’s runs have come in Maiden Special Weights with each start coming at the 5 ½ furlong distance.
She is the third winner from three to race out of two-time winner Magiciansquestion. A full sister to the stakes placed Mr. Magician, Magician’squestion is also a half-sister to stakes winners Harbingerofthings and A Lover’s Question and the stakes placed Day the Music Died. Harbingerofthings produced Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Tell Your Daddy and Grade 3 winner Dynadrive.
RAGING BULL is the sire of six winners and two stakes performers with his five turf winners second best of any freshman sire this year.
