Popular SEIZE THE GREY Sees First In-Foal Mares Sell at Keeneland November

A dual Grade 1 winning son of the late Arrogate, it was no surprise that SEIZE THE GREY was in high demand during this season’s breeding season and that looks to continue to be the case at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale with 24 mares carrying foals from his first crop on offer.

The first offering carrying a SEIZE THE GREY foal is the stakes winning Accommodate Eva selling with Four Star Sales as Hip 279.

Winning stakes at both two and three before retiring after one start this year at four, Accommodate Eva earned $211,230. She is one of four stakes performers out of Accommodate, who also produced the stakes placed trio of Hennessy Express, Hit a Lick and Storming Back from her seven winners. The Pleasantly Perfect mare is out of the Grade 3 placed Consort Music, who is one of three stakes performers out of her own dam. This page also includes the Grade 2 winner Fairy Garden and stakes winners A.O.L. Hayes and King’s Mate.

One hip later comes Hip 280 from Lisa and Tim Turney.

Accomplished is a Tonalist half-sister to Canadian champion Cairo Consort and two other winners from three to race out of Absolutely Awesome. Success is something this family is very familiar with as Absolutely Awesome is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Awesome Maria.

Even more stakes form comes under Grade 1 winning third dam Pretty Discreet. She was an even better broodmare than racemare as the dam of Grade 1 winners Discreet Cat and Discreetly Mine and stakes winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Pretty Wild. Many of her daughters and granddaughters went on to produce stakes horses as well.

Carrying her first foal on a February 22 cover is the stakes placed Determined Sail selling as Hip 365 with Scott Mallory, offering her on behalf of Determined Stud.

A homebred for her owner, Determined Sail won on debut as a 2-year-old at Colonel Downs before placing third in the Kitten’s Joy S. two starts later with three top three finishes in eight starts overall. She is one of two stakes performers out of the stakes winning Involuntary, whose crowning achievement as a broodmare so far is the Canadian champion Philip My Dear among her four to race.

Involuntary is out of a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Sir Gerry and the stakes winning Ionic. There are four more stakes performers under the next dam, who is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Ardkinglass.

Bernardini mare Casting Director gives buyers a chance to purchase a proven broodmare in foal to SEIZE THE GREY when she sells as Hip 720 with Gainesway.

Part of the Bonne Chance Farm dispersal, Casting Director is the dam of stakes winner and Grade 3-placed My Buddy B, Grade 3 placed Movie Moxy, and stakes placed Nom de Plum. In all, Casting Director has five winners from five to race with My Buddy B winning his 10th race this year. The mare also has a 2-year-old by Munnings, yearling by Liam’s Map, and weanling by Street Sense to come.

It’s no surprise Casting Director is a good broodmare, she is out of the Grade 1 winning Shadow Cast, who is one of three stakes performers out of Daily Special. The mare also produced stakes winner Overprepared, stakes placed Queen Marge, and the dam of stakes placed Setna The Wise.

Casting Director is a sixth-generation stakes producer with horses produced by the dams behind her including champion Legarto and Group 1 winner Kilts N Kapers. Under her first two dams alone are eight stakes performers.

Breeders will get a foal closely related to dual Grade 1 winner Cave Rock when they buy Hip 1278 from Ballysax Bloodstock.

Three-year-old filly Lakeside is a half-sister to Arrogate’s Cave Rock and is carrying to Arrogate son SEIZE THE GREY on a March 13 cover. The filly is a half-sister to six winners from seven to race out of Grade 3 winner Georgie’s Angel, whose 2-year-old was a Saratoga Maiden Special Weight winner by four lengths earlier this year.

Georgie’s Angel is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Lawn Ranger and five other winners out the Dynaformer mare Lalka. That mare is a half-sister to two stakes winners herself with one of her sisters also producing a stakes horse. This family is strong throughout with other horses named including Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Excaper and the stakes winning Tethra and Celmis.

A half-sister to a Grade 1 winner out of a half-sister to a Grade 1 winner sells as Hip 1822 with Gainesway.

Carrying her first foal, Constitution daughter Sintra is a half-sister to Champagne S. (G1) winner Blazing Sevens, who also placed in three Grade 1s led by the Preakness S. (G1). Their two-time winning dam Trophy Girl has a similar story as her daughter with her half-brother King David winning the Jamaica H. (G1) in addition to being a half-sister to stakes winner Bertsgoldenmissile and Grade 3-placed Heureux.

Those looking for a page that shows a young mare has producing potential will appreciate Sintra, who sees each of her first five dams producing at least one stakes performer with only one of her first eight dams not accomplishing the feat.

A.P. Indy daughter Strawberry Sense sells as Hip 1845 with Gainesway.

The mare is a three-quarter sister to champion Vindication and stakes winner In Step and full sister to Grade 3 winner Scipion, with two other runners out of her Grade 3 winning dam Strawberry Reason placing in stakes. Strawberry Reason has also seen multiple daughters produce stakes winners with stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Bella Vita and stakes winner Shem among those horses.

Strawberry Sense never raced but has her own accomplishments to match her siblings. The mare is the dam of Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed Prime Attraction, stakes winner and Grade 1 placed Kathy’s Song and two other stakes performers among her runners. In all, Strawberry Sense has produced seven winners with four winning three or more races and two winning as juveniles. She also has a Curlin yearling to come.

The Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale runs from November 4 to 11 with SEIZE THE GREY’s first offering going through the ring during the second session.
