It was Grade 1 winner number 29 for TAPIT on Friday with daughter Pauline’s Pearl scored her third win in her last four starts by half a length in the La Troienne Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs. Suffering her only loss of 2022 last out when second in the Azeri Stakes (G2), she ran down 2020 Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Shedaresthedevil to gain her first Grade 1 success. Stonestreet Thoroughbred homebred Pauline’s Pearl is now the earner of $1,494,200 with top three placings in all but one of the 10 stakes races she has contested.
“So many things go into it,” said trainer Steve Asmussen of the victory. “She was a nice filly early that continuously competed and got better. She came back a 4-year-old! All four races this year have been tremendous. It is so satisfying for her to come back and get her first Grade 1 on Oaks Day. She did her best last year in the Oaks. You can see the improvement one year has made in her.”
