OLYMPIAD Filly Romps by Five Lengths in Ireland

OLYMPIAD is quickly proving to be a worldwide sire with Citrus Springs his latest winner after breaking her maiden by a widening five lengths at Gowran Park in Ireland.

Making her third start in the seven-furlong turf race, Citrus Springs broke strongly and was hustled to make a move from a wide berth to the rail. Grabbing that spot before they reached the turn, she took up an easy lead as another horse closely attended her.

As they turned into the stretch with just over a quarter mile left to go, Dylan Brown McMonagle asked her to find another gear and the filly was off. Kept to her task throughout the stretch run, she easily pulled away to win by five lengths.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien for Munir, Souede, MacLennan, Et Al, the filly bred by International Equities Holding was a $300,000 purchase in March at OBS by Justin Casse from RiceHorse Stable.

“She’s improved with each start. I thought she was impressive to win today from that draw. She obviously had to use a lot of energy early to get her position and she pulled away in the last furlong,” O’Brien told IrishRacing.com. “She looks a nice filly. We’ll probably have a look at going to Kentucky Downs with her. There’s some good prize money there.”

The filly is out of Tale of the Cat mare California Spirit, who now has three winners from four to race with the fourth a placed runner. California Spirit is out of the Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Protonico with their A.P. Indy dam’s four winners also including 10-time winner African Fighter.

Citrus Springs’ third dam is Chilean Horse of the Year Wild Spirit, who produced two stakes horses and is also the dam of multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Pioneering Spirit.

This is the fourth winner for OLYMPIAD, who now has winners in the U.S., Japan, and Ireland.
