It was a seven-figure leader for Gainesway during the second book of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when Douglas Scharbauer bought a filly from the consignment for $1 million.
The third most expensive filly of the first session, the yearling offered on behalf of Whisper Hill Farm is the first out of Speightster mare Blackheartedgypsy. That unraced mare is a half-sister to three-time Grade 1 winner Shedaresthedevil, stakes winner and Grade 3-placed Star of Wonder, Grade 3-placed Mojovation, and the dam of Grade 1-placed La Wally. This page got a huge update when her Gun Runner half-brother Leading Change won the Travers (G1) and Indiana Derby (G3) to take Starship Warpspeed’s number of stakes performers to four.
This page also includes the Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Crafty C.T. and stakes winning Laughing Boy, Carmen’s Baby, and Who B Dat.
Scharbauer also purchased the Gainesway-offed filly out of Chocolate Kisses for $750,000 less than 20 hips later.
That filly is out of the Grade 3 winning Chocolate Kisses, whose first foal to race is a winner. Chocolate Kisses is a half-sister to TAPIT’s multiple graded stakes winner Synchrony and stakes winner Point System. Point System produced 2026 stakes placed Paving while another half-sister is the dam of Grade 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Dream Shake.
Each of Chocolate Kisses’s first three dams have produced stakes winners with others in the family including multiple Grade 3 winner and Grade 1-placed Stylish Star, Grade 2 winner Hamood and the Grade 1 placed duo of Stylish Talent.
Other Gainesway offerings in Book 2 sold for $600,000, $575,000, $500,000, etc. with a $375,518 average – the second highest average of any consignment with 15 or more sold. Gainesway is back in the pavilion on Saturday with 47 yearlings on offer.
