MCKINZIE’s dual Grade 1 winning daughter Scottish Lassie made a winning 2026 debut at Saratoga on Sunday with a 8 ½ length romp in an Allowance Optional Claiming race.
Kicking off the season going seven furlongs on the dirt, she proved to be much the best basically from the start. She jumped up to the lead and had moderate pressure early on but when they reached the turn, she left all challengers behind.
Asked for a little more approaching the final furlong by Flavien Prat, she happily stretched out her lead. Geared down late, she won by 8 ½ lengths with the third placed runner 14 ½ lengths behind her.
This was the third win for the 4-year-old, who has finished in the top three in six of her eight starts. Trained by co-owner Jorge Abreu for Sportsmen Stable, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Photos Finish, and Corms Racing Stable, her victories include the Frizette S. (G1) as a juvenile and Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) last year with a combined 24 ½ length combined winning margin.
Scottish Lassie is a half-sister to the stakes placed Scot’s Law with those runners two of the three winners from three to race out of Bodebabe. A winning runner, Bodebabe is one of five winners from five to race out of Zaharias. That mare also produced the stakes winning Windmill and the stakes placed Ignitis with one of Bodebabe’s winning half-sister producing the stakes winner Crown the Buckeye and stakes placed Rumble Strip Ron.
This is also the family of Grade 1 winners Tara’s Tango and Visionaire.
MCKINZIE is the sire of 44 winners in 2026 and leads all third crop sires by cumulative number of Grade 1 winners and performers with three winners and five performers respectively.
