MCKINZIE’s Cyclone State Breaks Maiden

MCKINZIE registered a 16th winner on Sunday when Cyclone State won a Belmont at the Big A Maiden Special Weight.

The one-mile dirt race saw the colt jump to the lead immediately while held in hand by Luis Rivera Jr. Kept on the rail, Cyclone State was asked for his best in the stretch just outside the final furlong pole and extended from there.

Kept focused near the line, he won by 2 ½ lengths with only the second and third placed runners finishing within eight lengths of him.

This was the second straight top two finish for the Chad Summers trainee, who raced for Gold Square, George Mesina, and Michael Lee.

Bred by Allen Poindexter, Cyclone State is a half-sister to the stakes placed Zatara and out of the four-time stakes winner Chanel’s Legacy.  That mare is a fourth generation stakes producer with each of her first four dams producing stakes performers and two producing stakes winners.

MCKINZIE has had another big weekend with his daughter Quickick also finishing third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
