Churchill Downs saw another MCKINZIE visit its winner’s circle on Sunday when Kinzie Queen broke her maiden under the twin spires.
A homebred for Curtis Green, the Steve Asmussen trainee went off as favorite in the one-mile dirt race after a runner-up placing last out and a bullet two works ago. The filly tracked the leader from just over a length behind for much of the race before swinging to the five path entering the lane.
Registering a challenge to the leader in midstretch, she quickly took command and pulled away to win by 2 ¼ lengths with the third placed runner 6 ½ lengths behind.
The filly is out of stakes winner A P’s Glory, who is also the dam of stakes winner Givemetwenty and stakes placed Spoiler among her four winners from five to race. This is also the family of Grade 1 winners Majestic Prince, Crowned Prince, Sioux Nation, and Secreto among others.
This is the second winner of the weekend for MCKINZIE at Churchill Downs after Amarth won her second straight at the track.
