It was a stakes winner for KARAKONTIE on Friday when Sayyah romped in the Crown Prince Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Racing over 1 ½ miles on the dirt, Sayyah raced down the center of the track the first time down the front stretch before moving in a few paths around the turn. The KARAKONTIE 3-year-old raced a few paths outside the leaders down the backstretch as he patiently waited for his time to shine.
Drawing even with his stablemate around the far turn, a little bit of urging sent Sayyah to the front. It was easy going from there, with the gelding pulling away in the stretch to easily win by 7 ¾ lengths against his elders.
This was the second straight victory for Sayyah, who is trained by Hesham Abdulwahed for King Abdullah Bin A and Aziz Sons.
Bred by Ben Colebrook, Sayyah has won six of his 13 starts with three other top three finishes.
He is the first winner out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 winning Fault, Grade 3 placer and 23 -time winner Betweenhereandcool, and seven-time winner and stakes placed Congenial. One of Sayyah’s dam’s half-sisters also produced the Grade 1 winner Juju’s Map and another the Grade 3 winner No Mo Candy.
This family is a successful one with other names on the page including three-time Grade 1 winner Bast and Grade 2 winners Fioretti and Mananan Mclir.
KARAKONTIE is the sire of 21 stakes winners in nine different countries with those winners coming at both sprint and route distances on both dirt and turf.
