Karakontie, a brilliant miler and 3-time international G1 winner, is represented by his first-crop 2-year-olds at the OBS March Sale. Among the three juveniles catalogued, two breezed today (March 7) with both posting exceptional times. Hip 108, a colt by Karakontie out of the mare Cruise, breezed in 10.1 for consignor Wavertree Stables (Cairan Dunne).
Hip 140, a filly by Karakontie out of the mare Down The Well (IRE), went a sizzling 9.4, the co-fastest time of the day, for consignor All Dreams Equine (Juan Centeno). She is a half sister to Aqua Frio, a stakes winner by Uncle Mo.
“She’s shown me from day one that she’s a very talented filly,” said Centeno. “I think she’s the real deal. She’s very smart and easy to train. Obviously she can also put in a nice performance; she loves to run. She is the first Karakontie I’ve had and I’m impressed with the way she’s performing. Other people I’ve talked to with fillies by this sire, they are all impressed with them. I think they are going to do really well. My filly is spectacular… (Karakontie) has passed on good distance and strength to her. I think this filly is something special.”
Hip 329, a colt out of Miss Frost, breezed in 10.2 for consignor Golden Rock Thoroughbreds on March 8.
Michael Hernon of Gainesway added, “A G1 winner at 2yrs, Karakontie became a Top Miler at 3, by taking the French 2000 Guineas; and the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Karakontie possesses the Speed of Storm Cat on his Sire Line, and the Class of 5x Champion Miesque, who is his third dam.”
